The design for the Maharashtra Nature Park and Bridge over the Mithi River was conceived based on a sensitive and sympathetic approach to the local scenario.

Everything around the site contributes to composing a magnificent ode that celebrates the historical influence of the Mithi River over Mumbai. Aiming to contribute to the river’s revitalization, our project balances four main aspects: i) public usage and placemaking, ii) integration and mobility, iii) urban planning, and iv) environmental strategies.

MNP’s surrounding areas are characterized by a great diversity of urban uses that directly impact the new park and bridge. The park would serve the local population as a strategic transition zone engraved in an intricate tissue, highlighting the bridge as an important urban connector and stimulating the existing demands from pedestrians and cyclists.

The MNP and its bridge are an incredible opportunity to contribute to the urban fabric of Mumbai through the design of a landscape, which promotes the health of the river and its adjacent communities. The harmonious integration of the new infrastructure into the existing landscape was our biggest challenge. We managed to achieve it by giving due consideration to the existing site features and uses and by concentrating on the bridge and the tower as the only man-made intervention on the site, also treating the river promenade as a wetland, where water purification and flood control are of great importance.
