The design of the State of Kuwait Embassy Residential Complex in Brasília received special attention to the historical dialogue between traditional Arabic elements and contemporary architecture.
This liaison had to take place in a very subtlety and care, allowing the buildings to be imbued with an Arabic atmosphere while preserving their freshness and contemporary spirit. Our challenge was to strike a delicate balance—reaching that precise moment when architecture is able to represent and register its historical time by skillfully integrating aesthetic concerns, available technologies, cost control, climate considerations, and cultural reflections.
In our project, we reinterpret the traditional Liwan concept by creating a series of archways formed by perforated aluminum panels—contemporary expressions of a timeless architectural element.
The central strategy of the proposal is to embrace the traditional arch and its rhythmic repetition as a framework for transitional spaces that connect exterior and interior environments, bringing our architectural gesture closer to the Arabic vernacular.
