Renovation of Casa Europa in Rio de Janeiro: Preserving Legacy, Enhancing Diplomacy.
ATRIA plays a central role in the renovation of Casa Europa, home to the French Consulate in Rio de Janeiro. This iconic building, a symbol of French diplomacy, is a vital part of the city’s architectural and cultural heritage.
Owned by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Casa Europa has housed the French and German consulates, along with other international agencies, in downtown Rio since 2013. Its shared use reflects a broader gesture of diplomacy and partnership, underscoring the building's role in fostering international relations.
Originally built in the 1950s, Casa Europa is a significant example of Brazilian modernist architecture, designed by prominent architects of the period. Though it has undergone various changes over the decades, it has retained its historical character and cultural importance.
ATRIA is responsible for overseeing the complete renovation of the building’s infrastructure and managing the overall restoration process. The goal is to modernize the facility to meet contemporary operational needs while preserving its architectural integrity.
With a commitment to honoring the building’s legacy, ATRIA’s approach integrates modern functionality with a deep respect for the cultural and historical values embedded in the site. Casa Europa will continue to stand as a lasting symbol of Franco-Brazilian cooperation, diplomacy, and shared architectural heritage.
