A modern expansion of the Chief of Mission Residence in Brasília, enhancing representational spaces, connectivity, and sustainability through innovative green features and versatile event amenities.
The Chief of Mission Residence in Brasília, owned by the U.S. Government since 2013, originally lacked adequate space for representational functions. To address this, a carefully planned expansion was designed to enhance functionality while preserving and complementing the character of the existing residence.
The new representational area extends seamlessly from the original veranda, offering expansive views and abundant natural light. A key feature is the innovative green roof system, which incorporates a thin water layer beneath the planting surface to improve thermal comfort and provide an attractive view from the private upper-floor spaces. A sleek metallic pergola with automated sunshades reduces heat gain from the salon’s glazed doors, while visually and functionally linking the original structure with the new addition. This reinforces the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
The expansion includes a multi-purpose representational area for various event formats, a swimming pool, parking facilities, shaded exterior spaces aligned with the representational zones, a catering area with an industrial kitchen, guest and staff restrooms, staff rest areas, technical and storage spaces, a tennis court, and integrated landscaping.
